PREHISTORIC CONNECTIONS

Workshop at 300m3 Art Space on Saturday March 28th and Sunday March 29th 2009 by artists

YUNCHUL KIM and ROMAN KIRSCHNER

The workshop is in connection with their exhibition Proliferations at
300m3 Art Space opening on Friday March 27th

Film and Photography as well as the computer have caused revolutions in the arts and in society. The history of their development is filled with approaches and experiments that didn’t find their way into the final realization. These interesting “pre“-histories prove that there was no clear conception of how a future medium needs to look like or how eg. photography or phonography could be used.
We want to dig out some of the “failed“ developments from these prehistoric times and introduce them to the participants. Together we will try to combine them with current possibilities. But not without remembering the joke “The computer is the answer, but what was the question?”
The workshop is an open platform for all curious people interested in deviant image and sound processes. A good knowledge of art and media history, chemistry, physics or electronics is not required but if you have it, bring it along!
Some things we present: wet photographic processes, chemical synthesizers, dye-sensitized solar cells, chemical computers in different variants…

Session 1: Sat. March 28, 15 - 18
Session 2: Sun. March 29, 15 – open end
